Overview

Mani Escapes is the only local e bike and sailing escape service in Mani. Pierros is a Mani man and chef with local farm to table signature dishes served in Karvelas, the home base for e bike rentals, and aboard sailboat "Brizo". The Tofinou 9.7m sailboat Brizo is located in Gythio harbor. She sleeps six for overnight aboard including Capt and first mate. Camping is available on the beach in Elafonisos. The escape to Elafonisos starts at the boat. You choose what activities you want to play with during your escape in advance. We offer ScubaJets, SUPs and snorkeling in the water or camping ashore. We can support all your needs once you choose the services you want to include food, drinks, e-bikes and camping supplies. Simos is a large bay on Elafonisos. The beach is famous for the exotic water and soft sand. One side of the beach is a naturists dream, while another side has popular camping. There are no taverns or studios on Simos, keeping the virgin beauty of the place. To go to Simos you will need a private vehicle as there are no public means in Elafonisos assuring privacy and purity of your escape. We meet in Gythio harbor near the ferry port gate at BRIZO. After paperwork and safety talk we load your gear and try to get off the dock before noon. A gorgeous day sail to the enclosed bay off Simos beach has us there in time to set up a beach day camp and check into the campsite if you opt to choose staying overnight ashore. Plenty of time to swim, snorkel and relax before heading to the boat/campsite at the end of the evening. Slow rise with breakfast treats with fresh coffee/tea and time to explore the island or move the boat to another anchorage for a new escape. Pavlopetri on the mainland side makes for exceptional snorkeling and a scubajet lets you get more views with lots of fun. Depending on wind angles other sites are available for stops to escape the boat and explore. A sunset anchorage allows for delicious local mezze, salads and dinner aboard or ashore created by first mate Chez Pierros. The morning glory calls for another swim, snorkel, SUP or scubajet before making way back to Gythio to arrive by 1700.

Highlights

Dimitrios Wreck

Dimitrios Wreck

The first sight seen as we leave the port of Gythio is the wreck of the vessel Dimitrios. Dimitrios is a Greek shipwreck famous due to its picturesque location on an easily accessible sandy beach near Gythio, Greece. Dimitrios, a small, 67-metre cargo ship of 965 gross register tons cargo capacity built in Denmark in 1950, was registered in the Prefecture of Piraeus, registration no. 2707. Wikipedia Pierros, your first mate and chef, is a Mani Man and will share unique stories about this wreck as he was with the Captain prior to her demise.

Pavlopetri

Pavlopetri

The city of Pavlopetri, underwater off the coast of southern Laconia in Peloponnese, Greece, is about 5,000 years old, making it one of the oldest submerged lost cities, as well as the oldest in the Mediterranean sea. Pavlopetri is unique in having an almost complete town plan, including streets, buildings, and tombs. Wikipedia We may choose to snorkel, SUP and scubajet in the waters of this ancient underwater city.

Simos Beach

Simos Beach

Once at Simos, it is difficult to get away from the idea that this is not one of the Caribbean islands, so fascinating is its extraordinary beauty. The wide kilometer beachline is covered with dazzling white sand, and there are so many of it that in some places dunes even form. The sea is quiet and calm, crystal clear, greenish-emerald shade, which seems even brighter against the background of the snow-white coast.

Chez Pierros Mezze

Chez Pierros Mezze

Pierros loves to provide local food treats full of healthy flavors and colors. Shown is a light locally made tricolor (veggie) penne pasta with a drizzle of fresh virgin olive oil from our farm, locally grown baby beets and sprinkled with local mizithra cheese. Power mezze.

The fruit of the carob tree has been used by man since ancient times. The Greek philosopher Theophrastus (c. 371–287 BC), one of the founders of the botany and plant geography, wrote that in Greece the carob tree was called “Egyptian fig”. The ancient Egyptian name of the carob fruit is mentioned on ceramic vessels found in one of the tombs of the Saqqara necropolis belonging to the first dynasty (3100-2890 BC) of Egyptian pharaohs. Carob is a product derived from locust bean fruit (powder extracted from a dried locust bean pod). It is considered a substitute for chocolate and cocoa beans, because it tastes like cocoa. It is known that John the Baptist fed on the fruits of the carob tree when he was in the desert, so carob is sometimes called the “bread of John.” We have converted 150 olive tree farm to a 200 carob tree farm after devastating fires 2021. Carob, while famous in Crete, will soon be a staple in Gythio!
